Save Thousands of Vulnerable Species From Extinction

Target: Chuck Schumer, Majority Leader of the United States Senate

Goal: Support the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2022 and allocate vital resources to endangered species conservation.

An estimated one third of all U.S. wildlife species are already imperiled, with an estimated million at risk of extinction worldwide. One proposed bill, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2022, has the potential to bring back some of these animals. If approved, this bill would provide serious funding for the conservation and restoration of the worlds’ most critically threatened wildlife and plants. A total of $1.39 billion would be annually allocated to states, territories, tribes, and federal agencies to help implement effective conservation strategies.

Fish and Wildlife Agencies in each state are responsible for devising a State Wildlife Action Plan which assesses the needs of plant and wildlife species within their borders and determines a course of conservation action. Plans throughout the U.S. have revealed an estimated 12,000 species in need of immediate restorative efforts.

This bill was recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, and now awaits Senate approval. Demand that the Senate support this bill and start making the necessary changes to address important conservation efforts.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Schumer,

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bill that would help provide vital protections to the estimated 12,000 U.S. plant and wildlife species in need of immediate conservation action. This bill, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2022, would allocate $1.39 billion to states, territories, tribes, and federal agencies each year to help implement effective strategies to conserve and restore threatened populations.

As of right now, the main source of funding for endangered species in the U.S. is the State and Wildlife Grants Program. And, while these funds have proven successful in helping wildlife to recover, success is limited by the fact that it provides all 50 states with a mere $65 million. We must do more. An estimated one third of all U.S. wildlife species are already imperiled, and with continued habitat destruction and climate change, even more animals will likely succumb to the environments we have created for them.

We are asking you, Mr. Schumer, to support the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2022 and to start making the necessary changes to address the world’s wildlife extinction crisis.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
