Demand Resignation of Secretary Who Made Homophobic Comments

Target: Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida

Goal: Demand the resignation or firing of Gov. DeSantis’ press secretary, Christina Pushaw, after she made hateful comments towards LGBTQ communities.

Ron DeSantis’ press secretary, Christina Pushaw, has made terrible comments and hateful accusations towards the LGBTQ community. In multiple tweets she called people who oppose a sexuality education bill “groomers.” This is a reference to pedophilia. The bill she is referencing is the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” which bans educating students on the LGBTQ community and their history. She is being criticized for making a mischaracterization of opponents of the bill. Advocates, as well as other politicians, believe she needs to resign for her tweets.

Pushaw has a history of making anti-Semitic comments and now has made homophobic ones. Although Ron DeSantis still supports this bill, we demand the resignation of his press secretary. It is the least he can do after supporting the bill. Pushaw’s hate and bigotry should have no place in politics. The accusations she tweeted adds fuel to hateful stereotypes of LGBTQ communities.

It is a dangerous time for LGBTQ communities in Florida after the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” has been presented. Christina Pushaw comparing the LGBTQ community and anyone who supports them to “groomers” is unacceptable. It is also so dangerous to put a label such as “groomers” on a group of people. After her hateful tweets, she must be given consequences to making such comments. We demand the resignation of Christina Pushaw.
