Allow LGBTQ Groups to March in St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Target: Larry Cummings, President of The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee

Goal: Let LGBTQ groups march in the Staten Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade is back on in Staten Island after being cancelled due to COVID last year. There has always been conflict over whether LGBTQ groups can march in the parade or not, the opposing argument being that it is a parade based on Catholicism and there is no need for talk of sexuality. Gay, lesbian, and transgender groups are banned because the committee stated they will only allow groups that do not contradict the teachings of the church.

Activists are asking Mayor Eric Adams and Staten Island’s District Attorney Michael E. McMahon to boycott the parade to oppose the ban. Adams will not attend the parade until LGBTQ groups are allowed to participate, according to one of his spokesmen. No comment has been made by the district attorney of Staten Island. Even after Manhattan lifted their ban and has started allowing gay groups to march, Staten Island will not allow it.

Sign below and demand that in 2022, as times change and evolve, LGBTQ groups be allowed to march.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Committee President Cummings,

St. Patrick’s Day is a day meant for celebration, not hate. By banning LGBTQ groups from marching in the parade, you are out casting an entire group of people. It is not okay to allow bigoted ideas to be the reason people are banned. It is 2022 and LGBTQ people deserve the same freedoms to march as the rest of the Irish community. It is unacceptable to implement ideas in the parade that are based on hate and ignorance.

We demand you allow LGBTQ groups to march in the Staten Island parade.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. Staten Island?! Land of homophobes, racists, etc? Good luck with that.

  2. WE SHOULD LET THEM MARCH AS LONG AS IT IS DONE WITH RESPECT FOR THE MEANING BEHIND THE PARADE… WE NEED TO FIND A WAY TO RESOLVE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL… MAJORITY OF US HERE ON STATEN ISLAND AND ARE OF IRISH HERITAGE ARE WILLING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.. EVERY YEAR ITS A BLEMISH ON US…

Here in Montreal we have the 6th largest St. Patricks parade in the world and it is all-inclusive – every one has a good time no matter what their sexual orientation or beliefs. The Irish here are open-minded and welcoming!

  4. When they have a straight flag, a straight banner and have an announcer announcing that the straight community is participating in the St Patricks Day Parade, then and only then should the LBG**** be ALLOWED to do any such thing.
Don’t waste your time name calling because I’m not racist, I still have the same loving relationship with my gay brother, gay brother in law and my two gay nephews. I’m sick of the RACIST people PUSHING themselves and their demands on others! Just PLEASE STOP and allow people to get to know you and or each gay person independently as opposed to DEMANDING that every NON GAY person HAS to like you or a group of people where some may be nice and some may not be very nice. I don’t expect ANYONE to accept ALL straight people JUST because they are STRAIGHT! That’s ridiculous! PLEASE STOP fighting and pushing and just work on yourself, your marriage and or your relationship and future success. THANKS!
