Save Whales Reportedly Dying at Theme Park

Target: Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario Canada

Goal: Shut down Marineland Ontario and move its animals to a proper sanctuary.

Fifteen beluga whales have reportedly died at Marineland Canada in the past two years. The theme park has been accused of neglecting these majestic creatures and they have not yet provided answers about how or why the deaths occurred.

Former Marineland trainer-turned-whistleblower Phil Demers shared a video of the captive whales on his Twitter account. He also asked for answers about the missing whales. Until 2019, sites like Marineland and other aquatic parks were allowed to breed their captive cetaceans in order to create a continuous supply of new imprisoned tourist attractions. As local organization Ontario Captive Animal Watch pointed out, such breeding operations helped to cover up Marineland’s reportedly high numbers of whale deaths by replacing deceased belugas with infant ones so that on paper, the numbers seem to always stay around the same.

The Canadian Animal Welfare Services (CAWS) have seemingly known for a while that Marineland is not treating its animals appropriately. This last summer, inspectors determined that the park’s water quality was so bad, it sent marine mammals held there into “distress.” Marineland responded that “an unknown number of whale deaths at the park were not related to the water issues.” Whether it’s Marineland’s apparently inadequately repaired water systems that are killing the belugas or general captivity, one thing is clear: Marineland is seemingly killing marine animals.

This park is apparently not fit to continue caring for these creatures anymore. The government must shut down Marineland now and send its remaining animals to a reputable sanctuary.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Premier Ford,

The Ontario location of Marineland has apparently had 15 whales die over the past two years of mysterious circumstances. While the faculty says that these deaths were unrelated to water issues, inspectors at the park reportedly deemed that the water quality was so bad that it sent the animals held there into distress. It is difficult to tell how many cetaceans are dying because of the legal breeding that seemingly covers up beluga deaths with infants.

Marineland does not appear to be treating its animals appropriately. As a former employee-turned-whistleblower has shown in videos posted to Twitter, they are reportedly held in insufficient tanks with poor quality water.

Please, shut down Marineland and move its remaining animals to a sanctuary that can care for them.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Paul S. Leon, Mayor of Ontario

Why was nothing done after the first whale dying? I am guessing because it wasn’t of any real importance.
These whales were lining your pockets for decades and this is how they are valued and treated.

SHUT MARINELAND ONTARIO DOWN. BOYCOTT MARINELAND ONTARIO. YOU HAVE FAILED ANIMALS AGAIN! SEND ALL THE SURVIVING MARINE LIFE TO SAFE SANCTUARIES!

CHARGES AND FINES NEED TO BE LAID TO ALL THOSE RESPONSIBLE TO AVOID ANY TRAGEDY LIKE THIS HAPPENING AGAIN… THE PERPETRATORS HAVE LIED TO AN UNSUSPECTING AUDIENCE WHILE YOU RAKED IN MONIES!!!!!

  2. You are sending this to the Mayor of Ontario, California, who has nothing to do with Marineland in Ontario Canada.

    • Yes, this IS being sent to the WRONG Mayor.
The Mayor of Niagara Falls, Ontario is
Jim Diodati. And the Marineland in question IS the one in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Thank you for pointing out this crucial information Darlene🇨🇦.

    • sick of idiots says:

EXACTLY! THE BLAME RESTS ON THE IDIOTS-EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU-WHO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT REPULSIVE ANIMAL CRUELTY AS ENTERTAINMENT GET OUT OF THE DARK AGES BARBARIANS AND JOIN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY ALREADY!

  5. It’s all about the money $$$ greed has blinded humans, using anything and everything to make money to continue their lifestyle. And it starts at the top, look at the examples of leadership. Politicians should set the example of honesty, morality, compassion and Justice starting with how animals are treated.

  6. Shame on you Canada! This is over 2 yrs old and Nothing has been done. We are supposed to be the protectors and caretakers of our world and all of its sentient beings. 15 in 2 yrs!! Dear God. These are family members, living together. And nothing is being done, because you can get more? Disgusting and appalling! This should be a headline in Every newspaper. The Canadian people will not stand for this. Mr. Prime Minister.. free these magnificent cetaceans..

  7. Apparently, this park is UNFIT to care for these and ANY majestic creatures as they have ABSOLUTELY NO REGARD FOR LIFE AND SOULS!! RELINQUISH ALL ANIMALS TO A REPUTABLE SANCTUARY NOW!!!!!

  8. FORCECHANGE: Paul Leon is the mayor of Ontario, California. Please address it to the appropriate person in Ontario, CANADA.
Otherwise, this petition is going to go nowhere.

  9. Michelle Stewart says:

All animals must be seized from there and given to sanctuaries. That place must be completely shut down and never allowed to open again. All owners must be charged and fined. Company gets fined $1 million dollars. Each person must spend 10 years in prison with no early parole, and everyone must be banned for life from owning, working with, or breeding any animals

  10. Laura O'Donnell says:

This is criminal and heartbreaking. There is authority to shut the park down or at least take the whales, who suffer needlessly and cruelly. Do the right thing else you r as complicit as the greedy and sociopathic owners.

  11. Siham Hajjar says:

You’re sending this message to the wrong person. Ontario, Canada is a province and does not have a Mayor but a Premier. Paul S. Leon is the Mayor of Ontario, California.

  12. Scott martinez says:

God created these beautifully intelligent animals…sick humans put them in prison!

  13. Barb Garrison says:

Marineland Ontario is another example of poor management of marine mammals in all parks, that promote this type of entertainment. We’ve got to address this issue worldwide. Marine mammals should never be in captivity. Why? These animals rely on sonar, they migrate thousands of miles, their environment is a complex habitat, unlike the small, crappy, dirty tanks they are forced in live in. Sonar bounces off the tank walls, which confuses and harms marine mammals. Everything about marine parks is wrong, it’s especially morally and ethically wrong. It’s up to us to turn it around. If we don’t step up, no one will.

  14. Agree all comments what’s wrong with laws and people in this world they dont care about animal cruelty just themselves and the money. Governments care about money only not welfare of animals. All a bunch of money hungry fuckers.

  15. This is a sickening disgrace. No one is investigating, taking action? Marine parks are death traps, they need to be shut down, too bad no one gives a sh*t about these poor animals.

  16. I stand with all the comments above. These whales deserve a better life than what they are living. All of these “entertainment” venues are really just money-makers to the owners. They don’t care how the animals are treated as long as there are customers willing to fork over their money to watch the “exploitation” of these beautiful creatures. It must stop. Humans should have evolved from these types of entertainment.

  17. Shirley Lemieux says:

15 Deaths in 2 years is unacceptable. It is heartbreaking to hear stories like this where profits dominate everything. Businesses who deceive the public the way that Marineland has is disgraceful. Clearly, Marineland is incapable of providing for these captive creatures. The question is whether or not they will listen to public outcries over the care and deaths of so many belugas.

  18. Stephanie Geyser says:

Clearly buying a new replacement whale every time one dies (and probably giving it the same name as the dead whale, to fool gullible visitors) is cheaper than taking proper care of the animals. They are expendable. Their lives mean nothing, when money can be made out of them. And the money still floods in from the idiot visitors who visit Marineland Canada. Shame on you, Canada.

  19. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE!!! STOP KILLING THESE WHALES!!!!! THIS IS A DISGRACE!!!!

  20. All involved in this horror need to be prosecuted for cruelty and neglect…IN MY OPINION
