Target: Linda Dunikoski, Prosecuting Attorney
Goal: Thank the prosecuting attorney for her work in securing conviction of Arbery’s killers.
On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old Black man, was shot dead while running near his house. He was murdered by Travis and Gregory McMichael, who ran him down in their truck and were followed by William Bryan in a second vehicle. It took over 3 months for the men to be arrested after a video of the murder was released and went viral. Petitions like this one started to circle the internet calling for their arrest, and now, 21 months after Arbery’s murder, they have finally been convicted. Travis McMichael was found guilty on all nine counts and Gregory McMichael on all but one, while Bryan was found guilty of six.
Sentencing has yet to be passed, but the prosecution is aiming for life in prison without the possibility of parole. The conviction of these men after the heinous act they committed is a great victory for civil rights in Georgia and the U.S as a whole. For once the justice system has worked out as it should.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Ms. Dunikoski,
Georgia has been in the national spotlight since the lynching of Ahmaud Arbery 21 months ago. The eyes of the world have been on you and your work to bring justice to an innocent man and his family after that heinous racially-charged murder. It is thanks to you and your team that three more murderers will be put behind bars.
This is a great victory for civil rights, and a step towards correcting the wrongs of this nation and making Georgia a safer place for people of color. It is the job of people like you to protect our country’s most vulnerable communities or to bring justice to their families.
Thank you for bringing justice to Georgia.
Sincerely,
