Success: Fracking Banned in Delaware River Watershed

Target: Delaware River Basin Commission Executive Director Steve Tambini

Goal: Support new permanent ban on fracking in the entire Delaware River Basin.

After a decade-long battle with local governments, four states have finally come together to enact a complete and permanent ban on fracking in the Delaware River Watershed. This critically important basin covers parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, and provides clean water to millions of people and countless animals and plants. Fracking in any of these delicate ecosystems would have undoubtedly caused contamination, ruin, and illness. Fortunately, the Governors of all four states unanimously passed the new legislation to the relief of citizens and organizations like the Delaware River Frack Ban Coalition.

This petition initially brought our attention to the potential fracking ban some time ago, garnering support and raising awareness. Campaigns across the country combined into a staggering 100,000 people from local and national communities coming together to support the ban, and a subsequent aggregation of social media protests, emails, and petitions made government officials aware of how crucial many considered this cause. The river has been previously recognized by Congress for outstanding cleanliness, and regulations will ensure that continues for future generations. This historic win will be remembered by locals who rely on clean water for years to come.

Sign the petition below to thank the Delaware River Basin Commission for their efforts in protecting this ecological treasure.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Steve Tambini,

Thank you for both your efforts and the combined efforts of the Delaware River Basin Commission for your work in protecting the entire Delaware River Watershed from fracking. This scenic and vital body of water will be preserved for generations of human and animals, allowing them to live with pristine water and a habitable and healthy environment. As you know, millions of people depend on the water quality from the basin, and all those who had a hand in this decision can feel confident in protecting their safety. No one should have to worry if their drinking water is contaminated with deadly chemicals.

This much needed permanent ban will defend one more area of the country from the pollution and devastating environmental destruction associated with fracking. As climate change begins to wreak havoc on the world, wins such as this one provide much needed relief and confidence in the future of the planet.

Sincerely,
