Success: Wasteful Trump Water Rule Washed Away

Target: Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of U.S. Department of Energy

Goal: Support end to damaging policies that harmed water conservation efforts.

Former President Donald Trump’s quest for “perfect” hair took precedence over mega-droughts battering large parts of the country during the later days of his administration. The odd concern prompted an unnecessary change in a Department of Energy policy. This proposal, which significantly boosted the amount of water a showerhead could output in a minute’s time, was part of a host of similar initiatives designed to weaken water conservation, appliance conservation, and overall energy conservation. This ForceChange petition called for an end to the war on the environment waged by America’s federal agencies. Thanks to such sustained efforts, the notorious showerhead rule can now join the ranks of detrimental Trump-era environmental policies discarded into the dust-bin of history.

The Department of Energy has rolled back this deregulation, which would have allowed gallons-more water (from the current 2.5-gallon standard) to come from showerheads and exempted body-spray varieties from any regulation. The change would have likely raised consumers’ utility bills while depriving the regions experiencing excruciating droughts of needed sustenance. In an era ravaged by a climate crisis, natural conservation should be the highest of priorities.

Sign the petition below to commend this important return to sane policy.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Granholm,

The previous administration literally gutted hundreds of policies that have direct impact on our environment and our energy efficiency.  The showerhead rule was a particularly arbitrary and senseless revision. Of the revocation of this rule, your spokesperson stated the facts best: “as many parts of America experience historic droughts, this commonsense proposal means consumers can purchase showerheads that conserve water and save them money on their utility bills,”

Thank you for helping put America’s agencies back in the business of conservation and environmental responsibility.

Sincerely,
