Success: Historic Peace Agreement Signed in Country Ravaged By Civil War

Target: Stephanie Williams, Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head the United Nations Support Mission in Libya

Goal: Congratulate mediation efforts that brought an end to hostilities in Libya.

A permanent ceasefire has been signed by the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA), the two dominant factions in the Second Libyan Civil War. The historic agreement signals an end to years of brutal warfare and violence which began with the toppling of dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. In the years since, the international community and those who signed petitions like this one have pleaded for peace and reconciliation.

Thanks to the efforts of the United Nations and the willingness to negotiate displayed by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and President Fayez al-Sarraj, reconstruction can begin in a country torn by decades of misrule and bloodshed which took their greatest toll on Libyan civilians. Sign the petition below to congratulate UN diplomats and Libyan leaders for working to end a decade of war.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Williams,

The announcement of the long-awaited ceasefire in Libya is a victory for the Libyan people and the world. With years of war now firmly consigned to the past, Libyans will be able to begin the process of rebuilding the country so ravaged by violence and dictatorship. Your hard work in mediating negotiations between opposing factions is a model of successful and thoughtful diplomacy. Thank you, your colleagues, and the leadership of the Government of National Accord and the Libyan National Army for your dedication and openness to compromise.

Sincerely,
