Women now have access to the abortion pill via mail during the pandemic in a landmark victory for reproductive rights activists and those who signed this ForceChange petition. This decision overturns a previous rule stating that women must visit a hospital, clinic, or medical office to obtain an abortion. Thank those who fought for this success.
“Particularly in light of the limited timeframe during which a medication abortion or any abortion must occur, such infringement on the right to an abortion would constitute irreparable harm,” stated U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang. His ruling in the lawsuit brought by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists will allow healthcare providers to deliver or mail mifepristone to patients during the public health emergency. This means that women will no longer have to choose between contracting COVID-19 and risking their health with the complications of an unwanted or medically unadvised pregnancy.
