Target: United We Dream
Goal: Thank organization for working to prevent Trump from deporting undocumented “Dreamer” children.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that President Trump cannot end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, a decision that has saved thousands of undocumented immigrants known as “Dreamers” from deportation. This is a huge victory for immigrant rights groups and activists, including the ones who signed this ForceChange petition.
Trump has tried throughout his presidency to dismantle DACA, making little effort to obscure his racist motives. His demeaning rhetoric has served a dog whistle — and sometimes an outright war cry — to white supremacists across the country who seek to blame undocumented immigrants for all of society’s woes. This crucial victory has preserved the freedom of thousands of people and made a profound statement against bigotry in the US. Sign below to praise the Supreme Court for this historic decision.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear United We Dream,
The Supreme Court’s decision to preserve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is a victory for civil rights in the U.S. at a time when such victories are sorely needed. As you know, President Trump’s attempts to eradicate DACA are a clear attempt to garner support from racist voters and do not appear to have any basis in actual economic data.
Undocumented workers have propped up our economy for decades without receiving adequate pay or benefits, and 27,000 of them have worked as frontline healthcare workers in the COVID-19 outbreak. Many young immigrants have lived in the US for most of their lives, and deporting them to their “home countries” could be deeply traumatizing and even dangerous. I commend you and your colleagues who worked to secure this life-saving decision at the Supreme Court.
Sincerely,
