Success: Facebook Prohibits Invasive Facial Recognition Software

Target: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook

Goal: Praise Facebook’s cease-and-desist of Clearview AI’s invasive facial recognition software.

Facebook has joined the ranks in forbidding data mining by invasive facial recognition giant, Clearview AI. Hoan Ton-That, Clearview AI’s CEO, claims that his company has a “First Amendment Right” to use the faces of internet users, as they are posted in a public forum. However, many disagree with the company’s imposing practices and its uses of the information without permission, including those who signed this ForceChange petition. Praise Facebook for taking a stand against this violation of privacy.

“Scraping people’s information violates our policies. Which is why we’ve demanded that Clearview stop accessing or using information from Facebook or Instagram,” stated a spokesperson for Facebook. The social media website has joined Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn in an effort to curb data mining initiated by Clearview AI, a software company that uses facial recognition technology to invade the privacy of social media users and reportedly assists law enforcement in investigations. Facebook has even sent a cease-and-desist letter to the company.

This is a huge and important step in preventing an ethical and moral invasion of privacy. Thank Facebook for standing up for its users’ rights.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Zuckerberg,

Your recent condemnation of Clearview AI’s ongoing attempts to invade the privacy of Facebook users is to be commended. Facial recognition, without granted permission by the subject, is ethically and morally wrong and it could potentially endanger users who must keep a low profile for personal reasons.

In a world where a software giant feels that they have a right to the face of every citizen, it is essential that you take up the mantel and fight for those who use your platform. Thank you for your support and for sending a cease-and-desist letter to Clearview AI.

Sincerely,

One modern company helped me open an IT business. She also helped me find it developers and in general in everything. I just went to the devops development consulting website and turned to them for help, because everyone recommends them. Thanks to them, I have a great income. I recommend this site to everyone.
