Target: The Right Honourable Theresa Villiers, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
Goal: Praise the United Kingdom for their lowest coal emissions on record in years.
Coal emissions are at a record low in the United Kingdom. Recent data shows that during the second quarter of this year, less than one percent of electricity in the country comes from coal plants. It was later confirmed that several coal plants in the UK are shutting down or seeing much less use.
This is a major victory in the fight against this fossil fuel. For the past several years, many have died of asthma or other respiratory complications due to the air pollution caused by coal. Coal plants have compromised or outright ruined green spaces with their construction. The country continued to make this problem worse by insuring coal companies, enabling the continued reliance on this fuel. Petitions such as this one circulated demanding the UK stop this.
Coal usage is coming closer to a complete stop than ever in the UK, thanks to the efforts of the government to take this need seriously. Sign this petition to thank the UK government for falling in step with the rest of the world and phasing out the use of coal.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Villiers,
Coal usage is at an all-time low in the United Kingdom, with coal plants making up less than one percent of electricity used in the country. For years, coal dependency has been a problem in the UK. Coal plants have compromised or infringed on unspoiled green spaces. Many people have died of asthma and other respiratory complications due to coal-related air pollution.
It is thanks to you and the UK government that coal usage is lower than it has been in a long time. Thank you for taking public concern seriously. It shows that the UK is truly committed to making its environment safer for citizens, and to protecting green spaces. It is hoped that soon, coal usage will be only a distant memory as cleaner energy sources replace it.
Sincerely,
