Success: Cuba To Aid In Reef Protection

Target: Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power

Goal: Thank Cuban lawmakers for protecting endangered coral reefs.

Cuba has drastically improved its fishing laws and limits to protect coral reefs. For years, coral reefs have been shrinking and dying due to factors such as pollution and overfishing. This has led to the endangerment of other aquatic wildlife, who rely on these reefs for sustenance and protection.

Coral reefs are vital to the quality and well-being of the oceans, and to the preservation of seabirds, fish, and marine mammals. Overfishing is just one of many problems threatening to destroy these reefs, to the point where it has been speculated that future generations will never see one in their lifetime. Petitions such as this one have circulated, demanding more effort to preserve reefs.

Cuba has taken a very important step in protecting what remains of the world’s coral reefs, and it is hoped that other countries and territories will follow suit. Sign this petition to thank Cuba’s legislature for putting the needs of the environment first.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Hernández,

Thank you for introducing a reform in fishing laws and limits to protect the remaining coral reefs of the world. For several years, many factors have been destroying reefs across the globe, with overfishing being one of the major factors. Not only does overfishing rob the ocean of many species, but the structures are heavily damaged by the boats used.

Coral reefs are a vital part of the ocean’s ecosystem, providing sustenance and protection for various sea creatures. By tightening your country’s fishing laws, you have taken an important step in protecting and improving the ocean. Thank you for putting the environment above the desires of fishermen.

Sincerely,
