Target: Sherry Boston, District Attorney of DelKab County in Georgia
Goal: Praise Georgia district attorney for refusing to enforce draconian anti-abortion law.
Several district attorneys in Georgia have refused to enforce the “heartbeat bill,” which criminalizes women for seeking abortion more than six weeks into a pregnancy. One particular objection comes from Sherry Boston of DelKab County: “As a woman and mother, I am concerned about the passage and attempted passage of laws such as this one in Georgia, Alabama, and other states,” she says.
Georgia is one of two states currently under fire for attempting to restrict women’s reproductive rights and freedom of choice, alongside Alabama. The two states’ anti-abortion laws are dehumanizing to women, treating them as lower-class citizens by a government who seeks to control them. Many petitions have circulated fighting these laws, including this one.
While this does not erase the law from existence, it is a relief to know that the law is on the side of women’s rights and freedoms. Sign this petition to thank Sherry Boston, one of several attorneys who will fight this cruel, misogynistic law.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Attorney Boston,
Thank you for standing up and fighting Georgia’s oppressive “heartbeat bill.” This new law strips women of their reproductive freedom and seeks to control them and their bodies by threatening prison time if they seek abortion more than six weeks into a pregnancy. Between this law and the Alabama ban, women are losing their freedom of choice little by little.
We applaud your refusal to enforce this cruel, dehumanizing law. While it does not erase the law’s creation and approval, it shows that at least some part of the government is willing to stand up for what is right and protect women’s freedoms. We hope that your refusal will eventually see the law revoked entirely.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
