Success: Anti-Choice Abortion Bill Once Again Defeated

Target: Kenny Yuko, Minority Leader of the Ohio State Senate

Goal: Support opposition to the nation’s most restrictive potential abortion law.

A persistent push by Ohio legislators to criminalize most abortions has once again gone down in defeat. ForceChange petitions such as this one have long fought against efforts to restrict a woman’s dominion over her own body. Now, thanks to such relentless efforts, the right of choice still reigns in Ohio.

The controversial ‘heartbeat bill’ would ban any abortions performed after six weeks: a point of time at which many women are not even aware of their pregnancies. Governor John Kasich deemed the law unconstitutional before vetoing it. A subsequent attempt by the state legislature to override the veto failed. As a result, what would have been the most restrictive and anti-choice law in America is no more…at least for now.

Sign this petition to thank a key state legislator for protecting the rights of Ohio’s women and to encourage the same diligence in future efforts to attack women’s health choices.

Dear Senator Yuko,

One Senatorial vote saved Ohio and the nation from the most egregious assault yet on women’s health rights. If passed, the Heartbeat Bill would have fundamentally undermined a woman’s constitutional right to choose and very likely would have gone to the Supreme Court, which was perhaps the intention. Thankfully, due to the commitment demonstrated by you and your colleagues, this archaic bill will not become law.

Thank you for safeguarding women’s rights and for fighting against an unconstitutional effort to control a woman’s most private decisions. The near-passage of this bill, the passage of other restrictive abortion measures in the state, and the election of a proudly anti-choice governor demonstrate that the fight is far from over. Please continue to be a strong, compelling voice for freedom, for choice, and for women in Ohio and nationwide.

The future will be defined by such unwavering advocates.
