Success: Keystone XL Pipeline Blocked by Montana Judge

Goal: Praise decision to block construction of Keystone XL pipeline.

Construction for the Keystone XL oil pipeline has been blocked for up to one more year, thanks to the ruling of a federal court judge in Montana. The pipeline has been a threat for years, and has drawn many criticisms from environmental groups. Not only would the pipeline release dangerous amounts of greenhouse gases, but construction would put many species of wildlife and their habitats at risk.

This is a very important step in hopefully shutting down the project for good. The Keystone XL has been one of the most loathed projects since its inception due to the previous efforts to phase out fossil fuels for cleaner and more efficient energy sources. Petitions such as this one have been circulated to stop construction in various locations, particularly Native American cultural sites.

While we still have a long way to go in ensuring the total cancellation of the pipeline, the state has bought us more time in doing so, as well as ensuring the safety of families, wildlife, and cultural sites. Sign this petition to thank Montana for this decision.

The project, which has been a threat for a decade now, has threatened many species of wildlife via construction destroying their habitats, and if completed the pipeline would release dangerous greenhouse gases into already polluted air. The project became synonymous with President Trump due to his agenda to revive the dying oil and gas industry, angering many environmental groups.

You have taken an important step in protecting our environment from an industry that should have been phased out long ago. It will take much more effort to shut down the project for good, but you have bought us time. Wildlife, families, and cultural sites will be protected from the side effects of construction for one more year, and hopefully, this will be the year we put the Keystone XL to rest for good.
