Target: Andy Puzder, CEO of CKE Restaurants and Labor Secretary Nominee
Goal: Applaud decision to withdraw nomination for Labor Secretary.
Donald Trump’s nomination for Labor Secretary Andy Puzder, head of the Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. restaurant chains, withdrew his nomination thanks in part to petitions like this one at ForceChange. The move came amidst massive opposition from Democrats and growing concerns and withdrawal of support from Republicans.
Democrats opposed Puzder for many reasons, including his hiring of low-wage workers and his opposition to important workers’ rights like raising the minimum-wage, overtime protections and paid sick leave. Furthermore there were a high number of complaints from female workers regarding the restaurants’ commercials that objectified women. Republicans were concerned with the fact that his family employed an undocumented worker as a housekeeper, though Puzder says he was unaware that she was in the country illegally. Additionally, Puzder has a track record of domestic abuse.
Puzder’s confirmation hearing had to be postponed four times because he had not turned in the required paperwork. This man was clearly not fit to be Labor Secretary. Sign below to support the withdrawal of his nomination.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mr. Puzder,
The choice to withdraw your nomination for Labor Secretary was a responsible one, amidst growing concerns about your fitness for the job. The position of Secretary of Labor is an important job and not to be taken lightly.
Transparency is essential when it comes to the appointment of a cabinet position. As Secretary of Labor, business interests must come second to the concern for the American worker. It was clear that your priorities were not in line with what the position requires. I support your decision to withdraw your nomination.
Sincerely,
