Target: Emma Reynolds, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, London, United Kingdom
Goal: Order independent, unannounced inspections of dairy farms after workers were allegedly filmed screaming at, kicking and hitting cows in milking parlors.
What happens inside a milking parlor when nobody is watching? Hidden cameras at Bramley Farm, near Daventry in Northamptonshire, allegedly provided an answer. Workers were apparently recorded screaming, swearing, kicking and hitting cows. They also allegedly pulled and twisted the animals’ tails. The footage surfaced as part of a multi-farm undercover investigation.
The farm operated under specialized corporate welfare assurance schemes. Major supermarkets immediately blacklisted it. Investigators are now compiling chronological data to identify every staff member visible on screen. The case remains unresolved. Activists say the findings show that industrial dairy systems can conceal systemic cruelty. A scheme that promises assurance but misses alleged abuse offers cows no real protection.
Why should animals depend on activists with hidden cameras to expose suffering? Regulators should find it first. Independent, unannounced inspections would give cows real protection. They would also give consumers real answers. The government must order them across the region without delay. Sign this petition to demand surprise audits and accountability.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Reynolds,
We are writing about footage from Bramley Farm in Northamptonshire. Hidden cameras apparently show workers screaming, swearing, kicking and hitting cows in milking parlors. The workers also allegedly pulled and twisted the cows’ tails. These animals live in constant contact with the people who milk them.
This farm reportedly operated under welfare assurance schemes, yet the alleged abuse continued unseen. Supermarkets have since blacklisted it. Investigators are still identifying the staff on camera. Public trust in the system has been badly shaken. People need to know that assurance labels mean something.
We urge you to introduce independent, unannounced regulatory audits of dairy farms across the region. Please ensure inspectors are not tied to the schemes they assess. Please also ensure everyone identified in the footage is fully investigated. Cows are sentient beings that feel fear and pain. They deserve protection that does not depend on a hidden camera. Thank you for your leadership.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
