Dogs Allegedly Used in Fighting, Others Locked in Vehicles: Seek Criminal Accountability

Target: Brad Burget, District Attorney, Seventh Judicial District, Louisiana

Goal: Pursue supported dogfighting and cruelty charges after more than twenty dogs were recovered, including four allegedly confined in locked vehicles.

A call about a dogfight led police to a property where eighteen dogs were found, four inside locked vehicles, according to reports. Five more dogs were recovered at a second property. For every animal, the priority is safe care; for investigators, the task is establishing what each dog endured.

Six people were arrested, with charges varying by individual. The allegations include dogfighting, animal cruelty, and aggravated cruelty. Medical examinations must establish injuries and their causes.

Organized fighting, when proved, turns living animals into instruments of violence. Effective prosecution should identify each participant’s conduct and any supported links between properties. Sign to demand a thorough case, serious penalties upon conviction, and protection for dogs whose future should be defined by safe companionship and appropriate care.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Burget,

Please pursue the allegations arising from an alleged dogfighting case involving eight animals with the seriousness that animal fighting warrants. We ask your office to establish the circumstances of that confinement and the role of each accused person through reliable testimony and physical evidence.

Have veterinary findings document each dog’s condition, treatment needs, and any injuries consistent with fighting or neglect. Preserve relevant recordings and communications where lawfully obtained, and assess whether they support additional participants or offenses. The dogs need individualized medical and behavioral evaluation. Coordinate with caregivers while preserving evidence.

If the allegations are proved, seek substantial penalties proportionate to each defendant’s conduct and any authorized restrictions that reduce the risk of renewed animal cruelty. A conviction should carry consequences that recognize the suffering established in court. We also ask that decisions about the dogs’ custody support their protection throughout the proceedings. Bring a complete, fair prosecution and seek a resolution that gives these animals the chance to live without the threat of proven fighting or neglect.

Sincerely,
