290 Animals Allegedly Kept in Distress: Pursue Charges

Target: Trevor Daroux, Deputy Commissioner and Commanding Officer, Alberta RCMP, Canada

Goal: Rigorously pursue the investigation involving hundreds of surrendered animals allegedly kept in distress and pursue supported cruelty charges while ensuring appropriate care.

Hundreds of animals allegedly needed care after an intervention involving two properties near Valleyview. Reporting described approximately 290 surrendered animals, including dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and rabbits, amid serious welfare failures. Claims of malnutrition and untreated illness warrant individual veterinary assessment.

The RCMP described an investigation into alleged cruelty at a shelter and said charges were pending approval at that time.

The scale of an animal rescue should be matched by a careful assessment of responsibility. Each animal’s condition, treatment, and placement matter, as do fair procedures for anyone accused. Demand a responsible update, continued attention to the animals’ welfare, and prosecution of substantiated offenses through the appropriate Crown authorities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Deputy Commissioner Daroux,

Please clarify the status of the Valleyview animal cruelty investigation involving 290 animals and the outcome of the previously announced charge-review process. The surrender of hundreds of animals and allegations of inadequate care deserve a clear, evidence-based enforcement response. We ask that the animals’ welfare remain central.

Ensure that veterinary assessments, property records, photographs, and witness accounts are preserved and evaluated individually. Examine allegations of malnutrition, untreated illness, and unsuitable conditions against the evidence for each animal and each person’s responsibilities. Please coordinate with the organizations responsible for care and confirm that appropriate arrangements address the animals’ continuing needs.

Where sufficient evidence supports charges, submit complete files to Crown prosecutors and assist the lawful pursuit of proportionate penalties if guilt is established. Any protective restrictions must follow legal authority and demonstrated risk. Please help bring this matter to a supported conclusion that respects fair process, accounts for proven harm, and ensures that the recovered animals’ care remains a lasting priority.

Sincerely,
