Dog Pushed From SUV Into Interstate Traffic: Demand Answers

Target: Kym L. Worthy, Prosecuting Attorney, Wayne County, Michigan

Goal: Identify and prosecute whoever pushed a young dog from an SUV onto an active interstate, leaving her injured, dehydrated, and terrified among speeding vehicles.

According to accounts, a motorist witnessed a dark SUV stop along Interstate 75 during late-night hours. An occupant opened a rear door, pushed a young female Pit Bull mix onto the active roadway, and immediately drove away. Surrounded by moving traffic, the frightened dog scrambled toward the concrete median barrier and remained there until responding officers could safely reach her.

Veterinary examination documented severe road rash, lacerated paw pads, and advanced dehydration. Fortunately, the dog is expected to recover. Investigators, however, still do not know who abandoned her. The witness could not capture the SUV’s complete license plate in the darkness. Police are therefore reviewing transportation cameras near surrounding exits, while animal shelters have offered a reward for information identifying the vehicle or its owner. No suspect has been identified, and no court has established criminal liability.

Abandoning an animal is dangerous anywhere. Forcing a dog from a vehicle beside fast-moving interstate traffic creates an extraordinary risk of injury or death. Once identified, whoever was responsible should face serious prosecutorial consideration. The person who endangered this dog must face appropriate consequences under Michigan law.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecutor Worthy,

A young Pit Bull mix survived a terrifying act of abandonment on Interstate 75. A witness saw an SUV stop before an occupant pushed the dog onto the roadway and accelerated away, leaving her exposed to passing traffic.

The investigation may still yield crucial evidence. Traffic-camera recordings, witness information, and vehicle-registration data could help identify who abandoned the dog. Your office prosecutes felony and misdemeanor violations occurring within Wayne County.

Please ensure that, once investigators identify a suspect and sufficient admissible evidence supports these allegations, appropriate charges are pursued under Michigan law. A vulnerable dog discarded beside speeding traffic deserves meaningful justice.

Sincerely,
