Target: Jennifer Bergman, Criminal District Attorney, Liberty County, Texas
Goal: Ensure that the individual accused of assaulting a leashed dog is prosecuted to the fullest extent of Texas law.
The alleged abuse unfolded in full view of a witness holding nothing more than a cellphone. That smartphone video appears to capture a leashed dog named Hulk enduring a prolonged physical assault on a residential street. Investigators claim the footage shows the suspect repeatedly kicking the dog before yanking the leash upward, lifting the animal partially off the ground, then striking the dog in the face. Hulk had no way to escape because the leash kept him restrained throughout. Witnesses immediately contacted law enforcement, preserving what investigators believe is critical evidence.
Deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded, identified the suspect, and later secured an arrest warrant. The suspect reportedly claimed he had merely tried to push the dog. A veterinary examination conducted after the rescue apparently documented a severe abrasion above Hulk’s right eye and internal redness affecting the eye — findings investigators are weighing as part of the case. The Houston SPCA obtained legal authority to retain custody of Hulk while proceedings continue.
Striking a restrained animal with no ability to flee reflects an especially disturbing abuse of power. A leash is meant to provide safety, not facilitate violence. If these allegations are proven to be true, the accused must face serous consequences.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear District Attorney Bergman,
The alleged assault on Hulk has deeply disturbed animal welfare advocates. Investigators allege a leashed dog was repeatedly kicked, lifted by the leash, and struck in the face before witnesses intervened and provided video evidence to law enforcement.
Your office now has the opportunity to pursue a complete and impartial prosecution based on eyewitness testimony, veterinary findings, video evidence, and all other materials.
Please ensure that, if the evidence supports the allegations, the accused is prosecuted under the fullest provisions of Texas law. An animal allegedly subjected to violent abuse while unable to escape deserves justice, and a strong legal response will help deter similar acts of cruelty.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
