Goal: Do not withhold one billion dollars of Medicaid funds from struggling Americans.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced it will deprive two states of nearly one billion dollars in Medicaid payments. The withholding will likely impact the ability of millions of Minnesota and California residents to receive healthcare funds promised them by their federal government. Over time, the maneuver – if enacted – is also expected to drive up healthcare costs across the board.
The administration claims the funds are being withheld because of fraud, yet no evidence has been provided to support these claims. Critics allege this action is the latest political targeting of states in the president’s crosshairs. Other states that had high levels of documented Medicaid fraud in a 2024 report (such as Florida and Tennessee) are absent from these supposed fraud standards, as are many states that have a high reliance on federal Medicaid dollars (including Texas and Louisiana).

Dear Secretary Kennedy,
How much longer will the residents of blue states be punished because influential American politicians do not like these states’ leaders? Why have the people of California and Minnesota (which did not even rank in the top ten of Medicare fraud reports as of two years ago) been thrown into limbo, while other states that did rank high on this list (and on the overall Medicaid usage by state index) are ignored? You are playing with Americans’ health, well-being, and their very lives.
If the intention is to hurt individuals and families already in financial and physical distress – and if the intention is to apply even more financial pressure on these struggling Americans – then mission accomplished. But if you really intend for your Make American Healthy Again to be more than an empty mantra, you will halt these reckless cuts at once.
