Stop Surge of Animals Suffering From Untreated Infections and Flea Infestations

Target: Puerto Rico Department of Health

Goal: Take action to address the pet overpopulation crisis in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is grappling with an alarming overpopulation crisis of dogs and cats, compounded by inadequate access to affordable veterinary care. Many animals suffer needlessly as families line up for temporary veterinary clinics, indicating a desperate need for intervention while facing the grim reality of neglect. Disturbingly, these conditions have created an environment where animals endure preventable pain and suffering, with many being left untreated for conditions like eye infections and flea infestations.

Despite efforts from organizations like PETA Latino and the Humane Society, the fact that so many animals require urgent medical attention reveals a systemic failure to prioritize animal welfare. Over 215 animals received care during a recent spay/neuter clinic, a powerful testament to the need for proactive measures and community assistance. Yet, the underlying issues that led to such a crisis remain largely unaddressed, allowing chronic negligence to prevail, and failing these vulnerable creatures who rely on human compassion and responsibility.

To truly protect the welfare of animals in Puerto Rico, it is imperative that those responsible for any negligence or mistreatment are held accountable. The call for appropriate punishment is not just about justice for the animals but is essential in fostering a society that values and acts upon the welfare of all living beings. The demand is clear: ensure accountability for individuals or organizations allegedly committing acts of neglect against animals in Puerto Rico.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Puerto Rico Department of Health,

The suffering of animals in Puerto Rico, as demonstrated by a recent clinic that provided vital care to more than 215 dogs and cats, highlights an urgent need for systematic changes to protect these innocent lives. Allegations of neglect and inadequate treatment are deeply troubling and must be addressed to prevent further suffering and ensure that no animal is left in pain due to human indifference.

Many animals are living in dire conditions, waiting for help that may never come, suffering from infections and infestations that could easily be treated. Each story of an animal’s struggle is a reminder of the responsibility that comes with caring for and protecting those who cannot speak for themselves. A failure to address this crisis not only perpetuates suffering but also undermines the integrity of our community’s commitment to animal welfare.

Together, let’s ensure a future where every animal receives the protection and care they deserve.

Sincerely,
