Target: Police General Kitrat Phanphet, Commissioner-General, Royal Thai Police, Bangkok, Thailand
Goal: Pursue maximum wildlife crime penalties against any individuals allegedly trapping and torturing protected animals inside a restricted forest zone.
A major wildlife cruelty investigation intensified after Thai wildlife officials and police officers dismantled an alleged illegal trapping operation inside a protected forest area near Chonburi. Rangers conducting a nighttime sweep discovered two suspects allegedly resetting steel jaw traps and wire snares throughout the restricted zone.
Authorities reportedly found injured civets and a juvenile macaque confined inside rusted wire cages without access to water. One civet reportedly suffered a severe compound fracture caused by a hidden snare mechanism and required emergency veterinary treatment. Investigators additionally seized illegal hunting equipment and digital records allegedly linked to wildlife trafficking activity involving black-market buyers.
The suspects were arrested and now face multiple charges under Thailand’s Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act. Animal welfare advocates warn that trapping operations may inflict prolonged suffering, starvation and severe injuries upon protected wildlife species. If substantiated, these allegations would represent organized cruelty and illegal exploitation inflicted upon vulnerable wild animals inside protected habitats.
