Goal: Ensure man receives maximum time in prison for reportedly drowning cat.
A cat named Rita was allegedly drowned by a disgruntled neighbor. It is important the accused party receive the maximum prison sentence if he is found guilty to reduce the chances of him attacking and killing other animals.
Joshua Booth allegedly used a garden hose to drown Rita in a tub of water. Officers reported both the hose and water-filled tub were found in his garage, where they said the incident took place. According to Rita’s owner, she retrieved her dead cat’s body after witnessing the neighbor throwing it in the middle of the street. Booth told officers that he acted out of self-defense. However, reports indicate that he likely had scratches on his arms because Rita was trying to survive the encounter. Officers also reported finding another terrified and wet cat in Booth’s garage.
Booth may be charged with two counts of “willfully / maliciously torturing, maiming, or mutilating an animal for companionship or pleasure,” with one of those alleged actions causing the death of an animal. Unfortunately, Booth was released on bail. However, if convicted, he could receive a $10,000 fine and up to 6 years in prison. Sign this petition to demand Booth receive the severest legal penalty if it is discovered he committed this reprehensible act to better ensure other animals in the neighborhood will remain safe.

Dear District Attorney Wolfson,
Joshua Booth was arrested for allegedly filling a tub with water and drowning a cat in his garage after it was reported by the neighbor that he said he would kill her animals. He must receive the most amount of time in prison possible if it is found he committed this unthinkable act to send a clear message that such abuse will not be tolerated.
The owner was said to have picked up her cat’s Rita’s body in the middle of the street after watching the neighbor toss her there on surveillance camera. Booth stated that he killed the cat because he was trying to defend himself. However, officers indicated that his scratches were likely on Booth’s arms as a result of the animal struggling while being drowned. Another scared cat was also said to have been found soaked in the garage.
As you know, Reba’s Law was set in place in 2024 to better ensure animal abusers would receive harsher punishments after an English bulldog was found to have suffered an unthinkable act of cruelty. The law states that a person found guilty of animal cruelty in the state of Nevada may receive 1 to 6 years in prison and that they may further receive an additional $10,000 fine. We therefore demand you recommend Booth spend 6 years in prison and that he also be required to pay the largest fine allowed by law so that other animals will be less likely to suffer by his hands if it is found he committed this unforgivable crime.
