A deeply disturbing incident has come to light in which two rams, named “Rocky” and “Chamkila,” were allegedly forced into a violent fight for public entertainment and a cash prize of ₹100,000. As reported, the animals were provoked and pitted against each other until one, Rocky, collapsed and died during the event. The fight was filmed, with the footage raising serious concerns about apparent cruelty inflicted purely for spectacle.
According to reports, the event took place in mid-February at a ground in Jogeshwari. A video exposed the incident, prompting a complaint that led to the registration of an FIR against three individuals. Authorities have begun investigating the matter and are attempting to locate the surviving animal.
India’s laws clearly prohibit inciting animals to fight, and a landmark 2014 judgment by the Supreme Court established that such practices must end. When such alleged cruelty continues despite legal prohibitions, it may reflect a failure in enforcement. Strong and decisive action is necessary to deter similar alleged acts in the future and uphold the law.
