Goal: Punish man who allegedly tortured and killed a goose to fullest extent.
In 2022, authorities perused through a man’s phone as part of an investigation. They reportedly came across highly disturbing video footage that led to charges against this man for a different crime: animal cruelty. The videos (three in total) seemingly depicted the man in question, Bryan Jose Ledesma-Ramirez, and another man torturing a goose to death.
In the video, the goose squeals in pain as its neck is apparently crushed with a broomstick. Ledesma-Ramirez and the other suspect are allegedly identified in the video as the perpetrators wielding the broomstick. Nearly a year after the reported incident, the second suspect pleaded no contest to the cruelty charges. This suspect received a few months in jail, community service, mandated counseling, and probation. Ledesma-Ramirez has likewise pleaded no contest, but his sentencing will not take place for several more weeks.

Dear DA Wagstaffe,
The killing of a defenseless goose can carry stringent legal penalties, with some species receiving protection under federal law. The case involving Bryan Jose Ledesma-Ramirez’ reported deadly torture of a goose should be treated with no less seriousness. This man and his alleged accomplice apparently not only tortured and killed this poor animal with a broomstick, but they reportedly filmed the act and preserved three videos as “keepsakes.”
Probation was the primary punishment for the other suspect in this case. You must demand stronger accountability in the sentencing of Ledesma-Ramirez. Please advocate for the strictest possible punishment for this horrendous and seemingly premeditated act that resulted in the suffering of an innocent living being.
