Demand Action After Goat and Kangaroos Were Punched and Slammed to the Ground

Target: Christopher John Minns, Premier of New South Wales, Australia

Goal: Demand further action and stricter penalties for those accused of animal cruelty, such as the horrific acts recently committed against kangaroos and goats.

Animal cruelty continues to plague society, with disturbing incidents of violence against vulnerable animals in Broken Hill recently coming to light. Jet Jai Johnson, a 20-year-old man, was sentenced to 14 months of imprisonment for five separate acts of cruelty, including horrific assaults on a kangaroo, a joey, and three kid goats, which he filmed and shared on social media. The footage seemingly depicted shocking and malicious acts, including Johnson riding over the head of a young joey and brutally punching an adult kangaroo in the head before forcefully slamming it into the ground, causing it severe fear, pain, and distress.

The heinous nature of Johnson’s actions is further exemplified by a distressing account of him kicking one of the kid goats—only four weeks old and weighing just 4 kilograms—leaving it to rotate in the air before crashing to the ground. This cruelty was reportedly a source of amusement for Johnson, who likened his kick to a celebrated sports figure. Despite his conviction and the acknowledgment of his actions as “offences against the community,” it is essential that society takes a stronger stance to ensure that such brutality is met with appropriate consequences and serves as a deterrent to potential offenders.

The call for change is urgent. Stricter penalties must be imposed not only to punish individuals for their existing conduct but to send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in any form. Therefore, the demand is for immediate action to address this grievous matter to prevent future atrocities against these sentient beings, ensuring humane treatment for all animals in our community.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Premier Minns,

The recent sentencing of Jet Jai Johnson for multiple acts of animal cruelty has brought to light the urgent need for stronger legal consequences for individuals who inflict suffering upon animals. The shocking footage seemingly showing Johnson cornering a kangaroo, repeatedly punching it, and subsequently slamming it into the ground publicly underscores a disturbing trend of violence against helpless creatures.

Furthermore, reports of the nature of Johnson’s offenses, which included a heart-wrenching account of a baby goat being viciously kicked, points to a serious deficiency in our societal norms regarding the treatment of animals. Despite being sentenced, Johnson’s actions have sparked outrage and distress among the community, highlighting the need for robust penalties that reflect the seriousness of animal cruelty offenses.

We urge you to advocate for stricter penalties for animal cruelty offenses and to support measures that ensure individuals committing such acts are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The safety and welfare of animals, as well as the sentiments of the community, depend on firm and fair responses to these unacceptable behaviors.

Sincerely,
