Over 250 Animals Reportedly Starving and Dead: Demand Maximum Penalty

Target: Chris Arnt, District Attorney, Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, Georgia

Goal: Impose the maximum prison term, fines, and a permanent animal-ownership ban on the couple reportedly responsible for the suffering and deaths of more than 250 animals.

Authorities reportedly needed 14 hours to remove 256 animals—many emaciated, some already deceased—from a single property. Officers said dogs, cats, farm animals, birds, and small mammals were crowded in filth, deprived of food, water, and medical care. Several victims were apparently in critical condition, while the remains of others were allegedly discovered on-site.

Law-enforcement officials state that multiple complaints and failed inspection attempts prompted a search warrant. The suspects, a married couple, now face seven felony counts of animal cruelty and could see additional charges. Georgia’s agriculture commissioner has characterized this as one of the worst abuse cases the state has ever witnessed.

Such mass neglect reportedly inflicted prolonged agony on hundreds of innocent beings. Meaningful accountability is essential to honor the lives lost, safeguard surviving animals, and deter future cruelty. Sign below to demand the prosecution relentlessly pursue the harshest sentence allowed by law, including lifelong prohibition from owning animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Arnt,

Reports describe a nightmarish scene on Sells Lane: 256 animals allegedly packed into squalid enclosures, many starving, injured, or dead. Investigators say it required a 14-hour operation, assisted by multiple agencies, to rescue the surviving victims and recover those who had already perished.

Seven felony counts of animal cruelty have been filed, and additional charges may follow. The magnitude of suffering attributed to this case is staggering—dogs, cats, livestock, birds, and small mammals reportedly endured extreme neglect and, for some, death.

We respectfully urge your office to prosecute every applicable charge to the fullest extent, seek substantial incarceration and financial penalties, and request a permanent, enforceable ban on animal ownership for the defendants. A decisive legal response will reflect the gravity of the alleged crimes and reinforce that systemic animal abuse will never be tolerated in Georgia.

Sincerely,
