A condemned home in New York reportedly became the site of near-condemnation for two innocent dogs. At the residence, authorities discovered two crates. Inside, according to the rescuers, were Paula – a chihuahua mix – and Stella, a pit bull mix. Both animals had allegedly been kept in the crates for over a week, without access to water or food.
For Stella, the circumstances were said to be especially horrific. She had reportedly been kept in the tiny crate almost since she was born. It is alleged that because of the entrapment, Stella’s paws had deteriorated to such a state that she couldn’t walk more than a couple of steps. She will apparently need to wear specialized boots for the rest of her life. Worse yet, investigators say Stella was extremely malnourished and had not been fed properly for an estimated several months.
Once the dogs’ supposed caretakers, Kenneth D. Sulgar and Laura L. Hendrickson, were found, they were charged with multiple criminal counts, including a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals. The New York State Humane Association Animal Cruelty Task Force recently investigated a heartbreaking case. Two canine survivors were allegedly rescued from small crates in a condemned house. One of the animals reportedly emerged from this makeshift prison looking as if she had emerged from a war zone. She was allegedly severely emaciated, had suffered significant fur loss, and could barely hobble on infected feet, meaning she will require supportive wear to even walk.
What these innocent animals allegedly experienced is the definition of animal cruelty. Please do not give the two individuals accused of these heinous acts leniency. If they subjected animals under their care to this living hell, then they must be held fully accountable for their actions, and a decisive message must be sent that acts of cruelty against any living being will not be tolerated.
