End the Sadistic, Illegal Dogfighting Industry

Target: Jessica K. Rock, State Animal Crimes Resource Prosecutor, Georgia

Goal: Ensure legal action against those involved in dogfighting.

In Georgia, a man implicated as a key figure in the cruel dogfighting industry was recently sentenced to an unprecedented 475 years in prison. Authorities say they discovered 107 dogs on the property of Vincent Lemark Burrell, many of whom were chained, undernourished, and lacking adequate food, water, and shelter. Some dogs were found living surrounded by urine and feces. This shocking case serves as a powerful call to action to take a stand against the cruelty animals face in our communities.

Further inspections of Burrell’s property revealed evidence linked to organized dogfighting, including items such as a treadmill for dogs, a break stick used to pry open dog jaws during fights, and various vet-only medications. Among the dogs, authorities found Baby Shark, an 8-week-old puppy who was destined for a life of dogfighting. The abuse and exploitation depicted in this case are intolerable and emphasize the critical need for stricter enforcement of animal cruelty laws and ongoing vigilance against such heinous acts.

There must be a continued and robust legal response to combat dogfighting and ensure that those responsible face legal repercussions, as Burrell has. Demand that the legal system actively pursue justice and preventative measures to protect vulnerable animals in the future.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecutor Rock,

The recent conviction of Vincent Lemark Burrell for facilitating a dogfighting ring and the severe neglect of 107 dogs brings to light a critical issue of animal cruelty that demands urgent and continued legal action. Dogs on Burrell’s property were found chained without proper food, water, or shelter, and some were discovered living amidst urine and feces. Such treatment of animals is not just a violation of their rights; it vividly reflects the ongoing problem of organized dogfighting in our society.

Evidence found at Burrell’s property suggests systematic involvement in dogfighting. Items such as a treadmill for dogs, a break stick commonly used during fights, and specialized veterinary medications were among the disturbing findings. Compounding the horror is the knowledge that puppies like Baby Shark may have been bred for this abhorrent practice, underscoring the need for immediate and effective legal action to prevent future occurrences of such inhumane activities.

We urge you to pursue ongoing investigations and legal ramifications against those involved in similar cases of animal cruelty and dogfighting. It is imperative that the justice system sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated in Georgia. The welfare of countless animals depends on your commitment to addressing these allegations appropriately and ensuring that those purportedly responsible face severe legal consequences.

Sincerely,
