Don’t Let Ozempic Endanger Consumers’ Health

Target: Robert Califf, Commissioner of U.S. Food and Drug Administration

Goal: Investigate claims of serious harm caused by prominent diabetes pharmaceuticals.

The pharmaceutical Ozempic has experienced a surge of usage amongst individuals attempting to lose weight. And for years, this substance has become a common go-to drug for management of diabetes symptoms. But a slew of lawsuits is shedding light on potentially dangerous side effects of Ozempic and other diabetes drugs.

A federal lawsuit has targeted pharmaceutical manufacturers Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly. These companies produce many of the aforementioned drugs. According to the lawsuit, consumers of the drugs experienced serious gastrointestinal problems that sickened them and, in some cases, endangered their lives. Tens of thousands of complaints have been filed at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Of these complaints, about 10,000 were reportedly deemed urgent enough to have required hospitalization. And over 160 people have allegedly died from complications arisen from the drugs. The lawsuit further alleges that the manufacturers being sued failed to provide adequate warning about these potentially dangerous side effects.

Sign the petition below to demand the FDA launch a full investigation into these claims and take appropriate follow-up action.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Dr. Califf,

Gastroparesis, bowel obstruction, and stomach paralysis were just a few of the serious medical issues allegedly experienced by users of approved diabetes and weight loss drugs. As the popularity of some of these medications has risen exponentially, so have the risks posed by potential complications. The current federal lawsuit involving manufacturers of these drugs should provide all the motivation needed to investigate these claims.

The thousands of Americans reportedly sickened and the families of the hundreds reportedly dead deserve answers about the alleged failure of manufacturers to adequately warn consumers. Please ensure that every FDA-approved diabetes pharmaceutical is helping, and not irrevocably harming, patients.

Sincerely,
