Protect Pets From Dangerous Summer Heat

Target: Hon. Ashley Moody, Attorney General of Florida

Goal: Prevent pets from suffering heat stroke or death in hot cars.

As summer temperatures soar in Florida, it’s crucial to recognize the life-threatening risks posed to pets left in vehicles. In Orange County alone, multiple cases of pets being left in cars have resulted in fatalities and animal cruelty charges. Despite options for pet boarding and daycare, some individuals still risk their pets’ lives by leaving them in dangerously hot cars.

The temperature inside a vehicle can spike rapidly, even with windows down, leading to severe heat stroke, organ damage, or death for pets who cannot cool down as effectively as humans. Florida law prohibits leaving pets in hot cars and allows Good Samaritans to break into vehicles to save distressed pets.

Pets must immediately be protected by raising public awareness and ensuring strict enforcement of these laws. It is essential to educate pet owners about the dangers and to encourage them to make responsible choices to keep their pets safe during the summer. Take action now.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Hon. Ashley Moody,

I am writing to express my concern about the rising number of incidents involving pets being left in hot cars in Florida. These cases, which have already resulted in tragic fatalities and animal cruelty charges, are entirely preventable. As summer temperatures soar, raising public awareness about the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles and enforcing existing laws that protect animals from such negligence is crucial.

Florida’s “Good Samaritan” law is a positive step, allowing concerned residents to rescue distressed pets. However, more must be done to ensure all pet owners understand the severe risks and legal consequences of leaving their animals in hot cars. I urge you to support stronger public awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement of animal protection laws to prevent further tragedies.

Sincerely,
