African Grey Parrot Allegedly Found With Severe Feather Loss Deserves Justice

Target: Mr. Shamila Batohi, National Director of Public Prosecutions, South Africa

Goal: Investigate and ensure strict penalties for the individual allegedly responsible for the neglect and mistreatment of the African Grey parrot, and enforce stronger animal welfare regulations.

The SPCA responded to a complaint about the living conditions of dogs on a property owned by a current member of Parliament. Initially denied access, the SPCA returned to find hastily cleaned spaces but reportedly noticed an African Grey parrot with severe feather loss. Despite recommendations from an exotic bird veterinarian, follow-up inspections apparently revealed non-compliance and deteriorating conditions. The SPCA obtained a court order to access the property and apparently found the parrot living in filthy conditions, suffering from severe health issues. The bird was confiscated and received necessary medical care, revealing severe respiratory infection, osteoarthritis, and other ailments.

This case underscores the urgent need for strict enforcement of animal welfare laws to prevent neglect and ensure justice for the animals involved. Take stringent measures to hold individuals accountable for alleged animal neglect and ensure the well-being of the parrot.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Shamila Batohi,

A recent case has brought to light a deeply troubling instance of alleged animal neglect involving an African Grey parrot on the property of a current member of Parliament. The SPCA reportedly discovered the parrot in severe distress, living in inhumane conditions despite previous warnings and veterinary recommendations. The bird, seemingly suffering from severe health issues, was confiscated for urgent medical care.

This case underscores the urgent need for strict enforcement of animal welfare laws. We urge you to ensure a thorough investigation and hold those allegedly responsible accountable. Immediate action is necessary to prevent such cruelty and protect the welfare of animals in our community.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. As a bird lover, it is always disturbing to me to notice whenever the issue for a petition is about a bird, there are far fewer signatures and hardly any comments. Same for reptiles and fish.
If this were a cat or dog, there would be dozens of comments and way more signatures. Very sad that even animal lovers care for some more than others, even though ALL suffer.
