Save the Saint Helena Olive to Preserve Dependent Species

Target: Ms. Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the United Kingdom

Goal: Advocate for the conservation of the Saint Helena Olive to protect the biodiversity of the Saint Helena Island.

The Saint Helena Olive is a critically endangered species of tree that is endemic to the island of Saint Helena, located in the South Atlantic Ocean. The tree’s habitat has been severely impacted by deforestation, invasive species, and climate change, putting the species at risk of extinction.

The Saint Helena Olive plays a vital role in the ecosystem of the island. It provides food and habitat for a variety of animals, including birds and insects, and helps to maintain the island’s delicate balance of biodiversity. The loss of the Saint Helena Olive would have severe consequences for the island’s ecosystem and the survival of other species.

It is crucial to take urgent action to protect the Saint Helena Olive from extinction. We need to raise awareness of the plight of this critically endangered species and advocate for its conservation.

Conservation efforts should include habitat restoration, protection from invasive species, and the development of sustainable livelihoods for local communities that rely on the natural resources of the island. By protecting the Saint Helena Olive, we can also help to promote sustainable development and biodiversity conservation on the island.

Thus, we call for the advocacy of the conservation of the Saint Helena Olive in the United Kingdom. We want the authorities to take decisive and prompt action to support the conservation efforts of the Saint Helena Olive and protect the biodiversity of the island.

Through the conservation of the Saint Helena Olive, we can help to protect the environment and promote sustainable development on Saint Helena Island. It is our responsibility to protect the environment and the species that depend on it. Demand immediate action.

  1. Too late.
“During the 19th century, human impact dramatically reduced the population of the Saint Helena olive as area was cleared for agricultural use.

By 2004, the last surviving tree had died from a fungal infection and the Saint Helena olive was officially declared extinct.”
