Success: Poverty-Stricken Country Potentially Granted Reprieve From Former Ally

Target: Antony J. Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State

Goal: Thank leaders who wish to strengthen Venezuela’s economy and make them a stronger ally of the U.S.

Venezuela, once a great economic ally of the US, has been kept at bay with sanctions while enduring economic collapse. The president, Nicholas Maduro, lost the last election to Juan Guaidó yet allegedly has been exploiting authoritarian means to maintain control of the country. The US has never acknowledged Maduro as the legitimate president and gradually have postponed economic support until full control is transferred to Guaidó or the illegitimate administration begins working to support all Venezuelans. Currently, corruption and greed consequently have put strain on the lives of those living in the country. A call to action from the US was highlighted in this ForceChange petition – and the call has been answered!

Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian A. Nichols, recently expressed “hope they will work toward alleviating the humanitarian challenges facing Venezuelans and free and fair elections.” He followed up on Twitter with words of support for Venezuela in the interest of a better future. Does this signal a return to constructive international relations?

Tensions have mounted since the US placed the sanctions on divided Venezuela where much of the domestically consumed oil once originated. With fossil fuel prices a continuing hot topic, revisiting talks with a once strong ally to mend relations is a necessary move. It is critical for the US to return to these efforts of diplomacy and they are essential for the survival of the people in Venezuela as well as stability in America.

Sign the petition below to thank Secretary Blinken for the effort of his administration to acknowledge potential support for Venezuela.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Blinken,

Words recently expressed by Western Hemisphere Secretary of State Nichols in support of Venezuela are greatly appreciated by all invested in the interest of their return to economic prosperity. After imposing sanctions in light of Nicholas Maduro’s questionable control of the government, many there and domestically have been wondering if the chance for progress was lost. Now there is hope.

Thank you for returning inspiration to so many people and suggesting the chance for a prosperous partnership.

Sincerely,
