Demand Justice for Animals Suffering in Cockfighting and Dog Fighting Rings

Target: United States Attorney General Todd Blanche

Goal: Ensure strict prosecution and appropriate sentencing for those allegedly involved in cockfighting and dog fighting operations.

The alarming escalation of animal fighting campaigns, particularly cockfighting and dog fighting, has brought forth a shocking revelation of organized cruelty in our society. Recent indictments have surfaced against five alleged cockfighters in Kentucky, who reportedly engaged in a conspiracy that involved breeding, training, and selling roosters for fights, with operations spanning over a decade. These individuals are accused of shipping fighting animals across international borders for the purposes of illegal gambling and blood sport.

Notably, former NFL player LeShon Johnson has also been convicted for his long-standing involvement in dog fighting, which included breeding and selling dogs specifically for fighting purposes. Evidence presented during his trial revealed that authorities seized 190 dogs from his property, reflecting a significant scale of animal suffering and exploitation. Johnson, who had previously been convicted of similar charges, stands as a glaring example of the need for a more aggressive approach to tackling animal fighting. It is essential to demonstrate that such behavior will not be tolerated and that appropriate punitive measures will be enacted against these alleged offenders.

The timely enforcement of the Fighting Inhumane Gambling & High-Risk Trafficking Act (FIGHT Act) is critically needed to combat these heinous activities effectively. The public demands strict enforcement and justice for the animals that are so cruelly exploited and mistreated. It is vital that those responsible for these cruel acts face the full extent of the law and that this case serves as a significant deterrent to others engaged in similar inhumane practices.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear AG Blanche,

It has come to the attention of the public that there has been a significant rise in animal fighting operations, particularly cockfighting and dog fighting, which are rife with organized cruelty. Recently, allegations arose involving five individuals in Kentucky conspiring to breed and sell roosters for fighting purposes over many years, generating substantial profit from this abhorrent activity. These individuals have been accused of violating animal fighting laws and selling animals internationally, showing the depth of the criminality involved in these operations.

Additionally, LeShon Johnson, a former professional athlete, was recently convicted on multiple counts related to dog fighting. Evidence during his trial illustrated that he had managed a large-scale operation that bred and sold dogs for fighting, with authorities recovering 190 dogs from his premises. Johnson, having been previously convicted for similar offenses, highlights the urgent need for a rigorous legal approach to these issues.

The time has come for proper legal actions and sentencing against those who perpetuate this violence against animals. The public calls for the strict prosecution of these alleged offenders and the enforcement of the FIGHT Act to send a strong message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated. Justice is paramount for the animals subjected to such horrific treatment.

Sincerely,
