Dead Snakes and Decomposed Rabbit Allegedly Discovered in Abandoned Home: Seek Justice

Target: Diana Moers, Prosecuting Attorney of Vanderburgh County, Indiana

Goal: Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law the individual charged with animal cruelty after animals were allegedly left behind in a residence.

When deputies arrived to carry out an eviction they reportedly discovered several deceased animals inside the home. Authorities reported finding three snakes believed to be dead and an unidentified carcass later confirmed to be a rabbit that had been deceased for some time. One live turtle was also allegedly discovered inside the residence.

Animal control confirmed the snakes were dead and that the rabbit appeared to have been deceased for an extended period, suggesting the animals may have died before the eviction occurred.

Investigators later reportedly discovered that individuals associated with the residence had prior animal neglect convictions. Authorities have issued a warrant and charges have been filed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecuting Attorney Moers,

We are writing to respectfully urge your office to pursue a thorough prosecution in the case involving animals reportedly discovered deceased inside a residence during an eviction in Vanderburgh County. Deputies entering the home say they discovered three snakes that appeared to be dead and a rabbit carcass that animal control later reportedly confirmed had been deceased for some time. A live turtle was also reportedly found inside the residence, suggesting that animals had been left behind without supervision or care.

Investigators later reportedly determined that individuals connected with the property had prior convictions involving animal neglect. While the legal process must ultimately determine responsibility, these findings underscore the importance of carefully examining the circumstances surrounding the animals’ deaths and the abandonment of the surviving turtle.

We respectfully urge your office to continue investigating this matter and to pursue the strongest available prosecution if the allegations are confirmed through the judicial process. Animals rely entirely on human caretakers for survival and protection. Ensuring that alleged neglect or abandonment is addressed through the legal system is essential to safeguarding animal welfare and reinforcing accountability under the law.

Sincerely,
