Target: Steve Wolfson, District Attorney of Clark County, Nevada
Goal: Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law the individuals charged with abusing dogs through shock collars and violent handling at a rehabilitation facility.
Dogs who had been rescued from shelters and placed in the care of a Las Vegas rehabilitation facility were reportedly subjected to disturbing treatment that authorities have said constitutes abuse. According to arrest reports, a trainer used shock collars on multiple dogs until they cried out. In one instance the trainer allegedly lifted a white pit bull named Dottie into the air by her leash and swung her around multiple times when she failed to obey a command.
Surveillance footage seemingly corroborated portions of these allegations. A former employee who reportedly witnessed what was occurring recorded several cellphone videos before being dismissed and later provided the recordings to police.
Police reports also indicate that one dog, named Jeb, reacted visibly while wearing a shock collar. Another dog, Turbo, reportedly collapsed after reacting to the device. A third dog, Astro, was reportedly found with injuries to his neck. The facility’s business license has been suspended pending investigation and 35 dogs were removed and placed in the care of The Animal Foundation.
The District Attorney’s Office is being urged to pursue prosecution if the allegations are substantiated.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear DA Wolfson,
We respectfully urge your office to pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law following the investigation into alleged abuse at a Las Vegas dog rehabilitation facility.
According to arrest reports and surveillance footage reviewed by police, a trainer used shock collars on dogs until they cried out, lifted one dog into the air by her leash, and pulled other dogs off the ground when commands were not followed. A second individual faces a charge for allegedly witnessing abuse and failing to intervene.
Thirty-five dogs were seized during the investigation. If the allegations are proven, we urge your office to pursue the strongest available penalties under Nevada law.
Sincerely,
