Justice for Dog Allegedly Tied to Airport Counter and Abandoned

Target: Steve Wolfson, Clark County District Attorney, Nevada

Goal: Pursue full legal accountability after a dog was allegedly tied to a baggage sizer and abandoned at an airport ticket counter.

A deeply troubling incident has drawn national attention after a dog was allegedly tied to a metal carry-on baggage sizer and left at an airport ticket counter. Officers responded to calls about the dog shortly after late morning hours. Staff stated that a woman had been denied boarding after documentation to travel with the dog as a service animal was allegedly incomplete. She then allegedly left the dog behind and proceeded toward her departure gate.

The woman later reportedly claimed she was attempting to rebook her flight and suggested that the dog had a tracking device, seemingly implying it would be able to return to her. Police further alleged that she became hostile and resisted attempts to detain her. She faces misdemeanor charges including animal abandonment, animal abuse, providing false statements to obstruct a public officer, and resisting a public officer.

The dog, a young Goldendoodle, was cared for by airport staff and law enforcement before being transferred to animal protection services. After a mandatory holding period, the dog was released to a rescue organization and has since received hundreds of adoption applications. Sign below to demand strong enforcement of animal protection laws to deter any similar alleged conduct in the future.

PETITION LETTER:

DA Steve Wolfson,

We write to express serious concern regarding reports that a dog was tied to a baggage sizer at an airport ticket counter and left behind after boarding was denied due to incomplete service animal documentation. Authorities have stated that the individual then proceeded to her gate, leaving the animal restrained.

Police have indicated that the woman resisted officers and that she now faces misdemeanor charges including animal abandonment and animal abuse. The distress and vulnerability that the dog may have experienced while reportedly left alone in a busy airport environment have raised widespread concern.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue full accountability should the evidence substantiate these allegations. Strong enforcement of animal protection statutes is essential to ensure that no animal is abandoned or mistreated in such apparent circumstances again.

Sincerely,
