Target: Melinda Katz, District Attorney, Queens County, New York City
Goal: Ensure justice and protection for the dogs reportedly duct taped and confined with only their urine to drink.
A deeply troubling animal cruelty case has drawn public attention after a man was allegedly caught on camera duct-taping a dog’s mouth and eyes shut in a public park. According to court records, authorities later discovered multiple dogs confined in filthy, overcrowded crates inside a vehicle. The animals were seized, and the individual was arrested and charged with multiple counts related to animal cruelty.
Since the seizure, one of the dogs was euthanized due to aggression, while another was surrendered to an animal welfare organization and rehomed. The remaining dogs are currently receiving care, but a court hearing is expected to determine their legal ownership. Public concern intensified after rumors circulated that the animals might be returned to the accused, prompting outrage from animal welfare groups and advocates.
Both the prosecuting authority and the animal welfare organization involved have stated that returning the dogs is not an appropriate outcome given the seriousness of the allegations. Sign below to demand protection for these animals, accountability for those found responsible, and the long-term safety of all cruelty survivors.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear District Attorney Katz,
We are writing to express grave concern regarding the custody of dogs seized in a case involving alleged documented acts of animal cruelty. According to court filings and public statements, the animals were discovered confined in filthy, undersized crates and one was allegedly subjected to duct-taping of its mouth and eyes in a public setting.
These dogs have already seemingly endured significant suffering. Reports indicate they were found with painful skin conditions, surrounded by feces, and provided urine-filled water bowls. One animal has since been euthanized, underscoring the severity of the situation and the lasting impact of the alleged abuse.
We respectfully urge your office to continue opposing any attempt to return surviving animals to the individual accused in this case and to pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. Ensuring permanent protection for these dogs is essential to their safety and to reinforcing the principle that acts of cruelty will have serious legal consequences.
Sincerely,
