Target: Doug Burgum, U.S. Secretary of the Interior
Goal: Allow wind farm projects to proceed unobstructed.
In another strike against clean and renewable energy, the Trump administration has abruptly halted funding for five wind farms that had already begun construction. The revocations will cost billions of dollars and likely lead to the loss of thousands of jobs. These actions came despite a federal court’s recent ruling that the president’s attempts to cancel all wind energy permits (in line with his removal of tax credits for all renewable energy) were “arbitrary and capricious and contrary to law.”
In its new rule, the Department of the Interior cited “national security concerns” as a justification for the defunding. Yet these “concerns” have been rebutted and addressed by experts. The true reason for the cancellations more likely relates to the president’s odd tirades against wind energy, which he has falsely called expensive, impractical, and has even suggested windmills cause cancer. In reality, wind is one of the most cost-effective forms of clean energy, and it would likely be an invaluable and inexpensive energy source in the coming years…as validated by the 130-plus countries that currently invest in wind energy.
Legal action is under way to eliminate these obstacles put up by an administration that has made clear its allegiance to fossil fuel special interests above all else. Sign the petition below to demand the Secretary of the Interior take the necessary steps to remove the obstacles himself.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Burgum,
You are likely well aware that the supposed security concerns regarding the impact of wind turbines on radar have been comprehensively addressed and rendered obsolete by evolving technology. So, what is the true cost of removing nearly completed wind energy projects that were already funded? To name a few, these costs include the loss of billions of dollars in investments, the loss of thousands of jobs for American workers, the loss of America’s standing as a leader in renewable energy, the loss of one of the most inexpensive and abundant forms of energy available, and the loss of a valuable tool in limiting unhealthy and dangerous pollution.
You can continue on the course of pledging your allegiance to a select few, or you can honor the oath you took to represent the best interests of all of America and all her lands. If you care about that oath or if it has any personal meaning, you will restore U.S. investments in clean and renewable energy without hesitation.
Sincerely,
