117 Animals Reportedly Rescued From Squalor; Kitten Found in Freezer: Demand Justice

Target: Brian Mason, District Attorney for Adams and Broomfield Counties, Colorado

Goal: Seek the maximum lawful penalties, lifelong animal-ownership bans, restitution, and mandated counseling if those charged are convicted for allegedly keeping 117 pets in squalor and leaving two dead animals—including a kitten found in a freezer.

Authorities executed a search warrant at a residence and say they discovered a large-scale cruelty scene: 117 living animals—96 cats and 19 dogs—removed from what officers described as “unsanitary and undesirable conditions.” As reported, feces was piled inches deep in places, ammonia levels inside were four times the threshold considered toxic for pets, and strong odors were noticeable outside the home. Two deceased animals were also reportedly found in a freezer: a small dog wrapped in a blanket and an 8-week-old kitten inside a snack bag.

According to prosecutors, two individuals now face 109 counts of animal cruelty—including 11 felony aggravated counts and 98 misdemeanor counts—stemming from the alleged neglect. The surviving animals are receiving care through local shelter partners, but many purportedly arrived emaciated, ill, or traumatized by their living conditions. These details paint a disturbing picture of prolonged suffering that, if proven in court, demands a proportionate response.

Swift, strong prosecution in cases like this helps deter future abuse, protects the community, and supports overburdened shelters that must rehabilitate the victims. If the defendants are convicted, the consequences should include the maximum allowable sentences, permanent bans on possessing animals, restitution for medical and shelter costs, and counseling to address the behavior that allegedly led to this cruelty. This case deserves meaningful accountability that reflects the gravity of the alleged suffering.

PETITION LETTER:

District Attorney Mason,

Your office has filed 109 counts of animal cruelty in a case where officers reportedly rescued 117 cats and dogs from a residence and found two deceased animals in a freezer—a small dog wrapped in a blanket and a kitten inside a snack bag. Conditions were allegedly horrific, with feces piled inches deep and ammonia levels far above safe thresholds. The scale and specifics of the alleged neglect are shocking and deeply distressing.

We respectfully urge you to pursue this matter to the fullest extent of the law. If the defendants are convicted, please seek the maximum lawful penalties, permanent prohibitions on animal ownership, and restitution to the shelters and veterinarians caring for the survivors. We also ask that you request mandated counseling and strict no-contact-with-animals conditions during the pendency of the case to prevent further harm.

Meaningful accountability in this case would send a clear message that such reportedly extreme neglect and cruelty will not be tolerated. These animals endured what appears to be prolonged suffering; justice should reflect the seriousness of that alleged harm.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
