Two Family Dogs Slashed to Death: Demand Justice and Maximum Penalties

Target: Paul McAndrews, Campbell County, VA Commonwealth’s Attorney

Goal: Seek felony animal-cruelty convictions, a lifetime animal-ownership ban, and court-ordered counseling for anyone found responsible for slashing two family dogs to death.

A grieving pet owner found her beagle, Toyota, with his neck “cut wide open,” and despite an emergency rush to the vet, the dog had to be euthanized. Days later, loved ones searching the property discovered Sky, a second family dog, dead in an abandoned shed with injuries described as similar to Toyota’s. According to news reports, these back-to-back losses have prompted multiple agencies to open an investigation into the suspected animal-cruelty offenses.

Officials confirmed the probes after concerns were raised that the dogs may have been intentionally attacked. The violence described is as chilling as it is deliberate: a companion animal left bleeding to death and another later found lifeless with comparable wounds. Such acts, if proven, represent extreme cruelty and a grave risk to community safety; research repeatedly links animal abuse to broader violence.

Appropriate charges, vigorous prosecution, and meaningful sentencing are essential not only for justice in this case but also to deter future cruelty. Prosecutors should seek felony convictions, a lifelong ban on possessing or residing with animals, mandatory psychological evaluation and counseling, and full restitution for veterinary and related costs.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Campbell County Commonwealth’s Attorney,

Two family dogs, Toyota and Sky, suffered devastating injuries on the same property—one found with his neck “cut wide open” and euthanized at a veterinary clinic, the other later discovered dead with similar wounds. Authorities have launched investigations into these suspected acts of animal cruelty.

If your office’s review determines that an identifiable person or persons are responsible for these attacks, we urge you to pursue the strongest applicable felony animal-cruelty charges. Given the reported facts, any plea or sentencing recommendations should include a lifetime ban on owning or residing with animals, mandated psychological assessment and treatment, and restitution for veterinary and associated expenses.

This case reflects exceptional brutality and raises serious public-safety concerns. We respectfully ask that you prioritize accountability and deterrence so that justice is served for these dogs and the wider community is protected from future harm.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
