Puppies and Kittens Reportedly Suffered Broken Bones, Burns and Head Trauma: Demand Justice

Target: Alexis King, District Attorney for Jefferson and Gilpin Counties, Colorado

Goal: Secure maximum lawful penalties, lifelong animal-ownership prohibition, mental-health evaluation, and full restitution in a case where young pets were reportedly injured repeatedly, with at least three deaths.

Authorities reportedly traced a troubling pattern spanning six years. A man allegedly purchased very young pets who soon turned up at veterinary clinics with broken legs, head trauma, burns, and fractured ribs. Three animals reportedly died, including a nine-week-old puppy, a three-month-old puppy, and a one-month-old kitten. Records cited by investigators reputedly show over two dozen vet visits at ten facilities, with explanations that injuries came from falls down stairs, off balconies, or off furniture.

Earlier episodes reportedly included a kitten with a stove burn on the ear whose condition worsened when recommended care was declined, leading to euthanasia. Another kitten was purportedly treated twice for “falls,” later showing head trauma, genital bleeding, and a femur fracture. A different cat “fell” off a balcony and lost a leg to amputation; imaging reportedly revealed air between ribs and lungs. Most recently, a puppy in care between late 2024 and early 2025 allegedly suffered four separate incidents and multiple broken bones that required three surgeries, while another puppy in that period was reportedly dehydrated, underfed, and diagnosed with a ruptured eye vessel.

Cases like this demand firm deterrence. Sign below to demand prosecutors seek sentences that reflect repeated harm to especially vulnerable animals, plus conditions that prevent future risk. Accountability should include a lifetime ban on possessing or residing with animals after conviction, comprehensive counseling, and restitution for sheltering and medical costs. Justice for these animals requires a response that treats sustained cruelty as the serious public-safety concern it allegedly represents.

PETITION LETTER:

District Attorney King,

Investigators reportedly uncovered a multi-year pattern in which very young pets were injured again and again, with three deaths among them. Veterinary records allegedly document broken legs, head trauma, burns, fractured ribs, and repeated emergency care for animals only weeks or months old. Explanations reportedly shifted from falls down stairs to drops from balconies or furniture, while medical teams documented new and old injuries across several visits.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue the maximum lawful penalties available, to request a permanent prohibition on animal ownership or residence with animals upon conviction, and to seek mandatory mental-health evaluation and treatment. We also ask for restitution to cover veterinary and sheltering expenses, along with conditions that prevent contact with animals during the case.

Strong prosecution in this matter will protect vulnerable animals, reinforce community trust, and deter future cruelty. Please advocate for outcomes that match the gravity of the reported suffering.

Sincerely,
