Target: Rodney S. Scott, Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection
Goal: Rectify customs rules that are causing package delays and stoppage for American consumers.
When the Trump administration did away with a long-standing rule that allowed cheap imports (under $800) to arrive in the U.S. tariff-free, it caused massive upheaval and confusion. Ordered packages were halted, received packages sometimes arrived with a high “fee” attached, and America’s main shipping delivery services were left to deal with the chaos. Complicated new customs requirements are now causing consumers a fresh wave of headaches courtesy of the United Parcel Service (UPS).
For weeks, customers have reported prolonged delays on goods ordered weeks or months ago, with many worried if their packages will even arrive at all. The in-limbo objects include everything from business essentials to personal keepsakes. Frustrated buyers who have tried to follow up have been met with conflicting, erroneous, or no information. For its part, the UPS has blamed the problems on packages being stuck at shipping hubs due to the avalanche of red tape and paperwork associated with the new requirements. The delays have even apparently led the company to “dispose” of held-up shipments – at the personal and financial expense of the consumers who were expecting these items.
Sign the petition below to demand the agency overseeing this chaos – U.S. Customs and Border Protection – untangle the mess it created.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Commissioner Scott,
Thousands of Americans across the country are having their shipped packages severely delayed or even destroyed due to onerous and burdensome customs requirements. The unceremonious end of the “de minimis” stipulation was seemingly only the beginning of a nightmare for American consumers…just in time for the holiday season. Think of the financial loss this tangled web is creating every day. If you are tasked with protecting America from outside problems, do not become the problem.
Advocate for and enforce an end to unnecessary dictates harming Americans the most by depriving them of business and personal goods that are rightfully theirs.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
