Contestants Reportedly Forced to Grab Alligators, Eat Live Insects: Penalize Animal Abuse on TV

Target: Niki Sharma, Attorney General of British Columbia, Canada

Goal: Open an immediate investigation into the revived reality show’s filming and, if live creatures are being harmed, pursue maximum penalties and bar the production from using animals.

Animal-welfare advocates allege that a revived reality TV series, now filming in British Columbia, may again rely on fear-based stunts that put animals in distress. Past iterations of this franchise have been accused of making contestants wrangle ostriches, grab alligators by their tails, ride bulls, and even eat live worms and arachnids—actions that, if repeated, could inflict terrified panic and needless suffering on sentient beings. Concerned groups are urging authorities to ensure the production does not violate Canadian animal-protection laws while filming.

Advocates further claim that such stunts can lead to animals being mishandled, restrained, or struck when they understandably resist, with injuries and prolonged distress reportedly documented in prior controversies. Using untrained members of the public around frightened wildlife or farmed animals can create dangerous conditions for both animals and people. British Columbia’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Canada’s Criminal Code forbid causing or permitting unnecessary pain and distress; any production that treats animals as disposable props risks breaching these protections.

Public entertainment should never come at the cost of cruelty. Sign below to demand authorities promptly audit the show’s practices, require verifiable no-animal commitments or independent humane-treatment monitoring, and, if evidence confirms unlawful conduct, secure meaningful sanctions including fines, prohibition orders, and conditions on future filming. Accountability is essential—alleged abuse for ratings must never be rewarded.

PETITION LETTER:

Attorney General Sharma,

We are deeply concerned by reports that a revived reality TV series filming in British Columbia may rely on stunts that have involved forcing animals into terror and pain—such as contestants grabbing alligators by the tail, wrangling ostriches, riding bulls, and eating live worms and arachnids. If any comparable conduct is occurring here, it may place animals in severe distress and contravene the spirit, if not the letter, of provincial and federal animal-protection laws.

Fear-based “animal challenges” can lead to mishandling, panic, and injuries, while untrained participants may prolong struggling and suffering. These practices, if happening during the current production, would be incompatible with humane standards and public expectations in British Columbia.

We respectfully urge your office to coordinate with the BC SPCA and relevant regulators to: (1) investigate the production’s animal-use practices without delay; (2) require enforceable, third-party oversight—or, preferably, a commitment to exclude live animals entirely; and (3) if violations are substantiated, pursue the maximum available penalties, including fines, restitution, prohibition orders, and conditions on filming permits. Justice demands that entertainment never come at the expense of animal cruelty.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
