Dogs Allegedly Starved and Violently Choked: Demand Full Prosecution

Target: Darcel D. Clark, District Attorney of Bronx County, New York

Goal: Seek maximum penalties, restitution, and a lifetime animal-ownership ban for the individual accused of choking and slamming a dog and neglecting nine additional dogs in filthy, food- and water-deprived conditions.

Officials reportedly reviewed surveillance footage depicting a man grabbing a dog by the throat, throwing the animal to the ground, and striking it as cries were heard. Responding officers then say they entered a residence and discovered nine more dogs who appeared underweight and stressed, confined in cramped, unsanitary quarters. The animals were removed for veterinary evaluation and care.

According to authorities, the dogs were kept amid filth and hazards, with visible signs of malnourishment and stress. Some reportedly had no apparent access to clean water or food. The accused was taken into custody, and multiple counts related to animal cruelty and neglect were said to be under consideration as the investigation continues.

These reported acts—violent assault on one dog and the apparent neglect of many others—demand a swift and resolute prosecutorial response. Such conduct, if proven, endangers animals and community safety alike. A strong case that pursues meaningful penalties, mandated counseling, restitution for the animals’ care, and a lifetime prohibition on owning animals would deliver needed accountability and deterrence.

PETITION LETTER:

District Attorney Clark,

Police state that they recovered nine malnourished dogs from a residence after surveillance footage showed a man choking, slamming, and repeatedly striking a dog as the animal cried. Inside the home, officers reportedly found additional dogs confined in filthy, hazardous conditions without clear access to food or clean water. These accounts portray sustained suffering and apparent danger to vulnerable animals.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue all appropriate charges supported by the evidence and to advocate for sentences that reflect the gravity of the alleged violence and neglect. This should include meaningful jail or probation terms as allowed by law, restitution for medical and shelter costs, mandated counseling or anger-management treatment, and a lifetime ban on animal ownership.

A strong, public prosecution in this case would send a clear message that reported cruelty and neglect will face serious consequences. Thank you for prioritizing justice and the ongoing safety and well-being of animals and the community.

Sincerely,
