Target: King Maha Vajiralongkorn
Goal: Support full recognition of same-sex marriage in Thailand.
Same-sex couples have faced a fight for recognition across the globe, as highlighted in this ForceChange petition. Asia, the planet’s largest continent, had been slow to progress, with only two countries affirming same-sex marriage as a civil right. But in 2025, the first southeast Asian country joined these ranks.
Thailand’s marriage equality bill began its journey when roughly 400 members of the House of Representatives passed the landmark legislation. After the Thai Senate likewise passed the bill by a large majority, King Maha Vajiralongkorn officially gave it a royal assent. The two-year odyssey – which began with former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s backing – ended with official passage of the law that grants complete legal, medical, familial, and financial rights to married couples regardless of gender. Shortly thereafter, a mass wedding took place, which included about 200 couples. And the king and queen themselves even recently officiated a same-sex wedding ceremony.
The new law represents a remarkable turnaround for a population that has struggled to achieve this win for decades in Thailand. Sign the petition below to hail this important victory for equality and civil rights.
